You know, I've always had a fondness for the body swap trope, and why not? Their funny little role reversal stories, always full of endearing antics as two people fumble about in brand new bodies with brand new lives. And such a versatile plot, too? With the right combinations of characters and settings, no two swaps need ever be quite the same! So yeah, I know it's 'Halloween Theme Week' and all that, but you can't exactly make a body swap with a kid and a toddler scary, now can you? So why don't we visit a story from this innocuous little anthology comic, and see what kind of a silly and heartwarming romp we get up to?

Partly because the artwork was rushed and largely inappropriate to the subject matter, but mostly because I was simply having to produce too much material in too short a time — seven scripts all at once! — and ended up putting most of my attention to the five “middle” books. Say what you like about KINGDOM #1 and #2, which aren’t great, but I genuinely feel that Offspring, Planet Krypton and Son of the Bat are as good as anything I’ve ever written or likely ever will. -- Mark Waid

Mod Post- Theme Week - Halloween!

Greeting my pretties,

It being the week leading up to All Hallows Eve, otherwise known as Hallowe'en, your beloved, and only slightly scary (in the right light) Mod Team, deem it a fine and fitting time for a proper Theme Week.

We've had some horror scans posted already, so our thanks to those who have contributed, but now's the time for more of you to get involved! We want your horror, we want your terror, we want your FEAR! (Ahem, sorry about that, channelling Vincent Price for a moment there)

What stories scared you? What stories made you afraid to go upstairs in the dark by yourself, or stretch your foot down to the end of the bed because of what might be lurking under the sheets? What comic story has had an image that lingered with you long after you'd closed the book?

We want to see them, we want to enjoy the frisson of thrills that horror can bring, so please do make an effort to share them with us! And use the tag - Genre: horror if you would please, so we can easily find them in the future!

As Rod Serling's words from "The Twilight Zone" put it;

"Enjoy these brief excursions into the other places ... the odd places, the strange places, the different ones.

The denizens of the Twilight Zone Scans_Daily are odd ones, indeed. They run pretty much a gamut of the most unexpected bystanders and players in life’s game . . .

You’ll see the witches, the warlocks, the elves and gnomes, the space ships and time machines.

All the odd ones and the not-quite-right ones . . . and, needless to say, we hope you’ll enjoy these tales from the strange and shadowy places .... "

Okay, at least half of that could describe scans_daily on your average Wednesday, but we want MORE!

So fly my pretties, fly, and scare the living crap out of us all!

Challenge 714: Snape's Library - The Nightshade Guide to Necromancy

This book of Dark magic could be of interest to someone like Severus who's enjoys learning about Dark magic . I suspect he'd jump at the chance to own it. Or just look at it. However you see it, this week we discuss Snape and the Nightshade Guide to Necromancy.

Justice League Action has been producing some terrific episodes, taking a sort of "Brave and the Bold" take on the wider DC Universe.

They've also released a series of shorts, and I think I rather like this one which showcases some problems encountered when Firestorm faces Metallo and tries to transmute his Kryptonite heart.

Here's a page from a flashback to when Tony Stark met Mary Jane Watson. I am not quite sure when it takes place, but it happens when Mary Jane was a model and when Tony was hitting the sauce. So it is before IRON MAN #128?

"I reserve the right to change my mind [laughs], but Barry and I have talked about it many times and one thing we like in the world we’ve built is that there is no Justice League waiting in the wings, no Fantastic Four, no Avengers to set the world right. It is not a story of what happens when the villain wins until the heroes wake up, it’s about there not being any more superheroes."

When Pia Guerra and I started Y: The Last Man that was our impulse: Let’s make a comic book for people who don’t yet know that they love comics. I think for a lot of people it’s kind of an intimidating art form to get into. Even if you’ve been reading comics your whole life, you take it for granted sometimes. It’s hard to just open up this page of panels—you don’t know how to read it. With Y: The Last Man we were like, let’s think about it so that if you’ve only ever read Calvin and Hobbes in your daily paper growing up, you will be able to read this comic. And I think with Saga we tried to hone that even more. -- Brian K. Vaughan

When I was a kid, Superman quite literally saved my life.

I have always been a devotee. Captivated by superhero comics when I was no more than four years old, they became the foundation of my existence. They always buoyed me in times of trouble, but even they couldn't elevate me when I was hitting high school. I was from a broken home, I was incessantly bullied in school, I wasn't handling any of it well, and the darkness of my depression had me -- and I am not exaggerating, forgive me -- suicidally depressed that no one really gave a damn about me and no one ever would.

And in that mood, on a January afternoon in 1979, I went to see Superman: The Movie, and it changed everything. I sat through it twice, full of joy I have rarely experienced since. I knew Superman was a fictional character. I knew Christopher Reeve was an actor. But together, alchemically, magically, they communicated something profound to me: Superman cared. He cared about everyone.

Even me.

Who doesn’t like Squirrel Girl? Doreen’s great, because she’s the furthest thing from a “random,” “zany” character there is; at the core of her, there’s this incredible, intense well of compassion and empathy that you don’t really see in a lot of other super-people. -- Al Ewing
